Never Let Anyone Dull Your SPARKLE

Hello all! I'm back with another card. I created this card for a special person who is turning 16 years old. (I should actually be getting ready for the party right now!) I decided that I wanted to make her a card but was at a loss, my mind went blank. Then, MFT posted their weekly sketch challenge and BAM, I could see it in my head and I got busy. Here is the sketch:

I broke down and used some paper from my Heidi Swapp Sugar Chic paper pad. This pad is from a couple of years ago and when I saw it, I fell in love with it. I bought it at Michael's. I bought the last 2 that they had because I loved it so much. I hardly ever use it because I am selfish and want to keep it for myself!! But, like I mentioned, this card is for someone special.
I used the print and cut feature on my Silhouette Cameo to create the turquoise frame and part of the sentiment. The "Sparkle" is from the Sparkle & Shine die set from Papertrey Ink. I cut it out of gold glitter paper also from Michael's, the Recollections Glitter Pad. The scalloped edge on the bottom was done with an edge punch also by Recollections. The stars were cut using the MFT Stamps Blueprints 11 set. The card base is Black Licorice Cardstock, also from MFT. I used metallic embroidery floss to wrap around the front layer.

I used the Die-Namics Gift Card Grooves from MFT to create a nifty money slot on the inside. The sentiment is from the Hero Arts "Year Round" stamp set. I stamped it with Versa Mark and then embossed it with some Recollections Gold embossing powder. The pink paper actually folds over the top and covers the back of the card as well, in order for the pocket to work.  I was so proud of myself for remembering not to "glue" the money pocket shut.
I enjoyed making this card and I really hope she likes it!

You Stole My Heart

I'm back to share a new card I just finished. I decided to do the MFT Stamps Sketch Challenge #211.
This is the first challenge I have done.
I decided to use one of the colored images I showed in a previous post. The image is from the Cute Critters stamp and die set from My Favorite Things. I used Cherry Crisp, Sweet Tooth and Chocolate Brown cardstock, also from MFT. I buy all of my sequins from Cartwright's Sequins, they have sequins of every size and color. The heart confetti is from Hobby Lobby. I embossed the brown strips and added some gold with my Gold Wink of Stella Glitter Brush Marker.

I am excited to see next week's challenge and hopefully complete a card for it as well. Thanks for stopping by!

Coloring Cute Critters

I have mentioned before that I enjoy coloring. I find it very relaxing and also rewarding because I can make an image look exactly how I want it to. I try to do some coloring on all of the cards that I make. I use Spectrum Noir Alcohol Markers, which I love, I have the whole set of 168. I do have a few Copic markers, and I wish I could afford more but I just can't justify spending that much on markers. Maybe when I win the Lotto. I have no complaints about the Spectrum Noir at all. There aren't near as many as there are Copics, but for the coloring that I do, the Spectrum Noir are perfect. I also like that they come in 6 packs by color family and also in 24 packs. I started out by getting four 6 packs online at JoAnn crafts. They were on sale for 8.99 a pack. Then I found the 24 packs on sale for 29.99 here at Consumer Crafts. They have amazing sales, I lucked out and got the remaining eight 6 packs for $5.00 on their Black Friday Sale!! I have also found that the Crafter's Companion Ultra Smooth Premium White Cardstock works best for coloring with these markers. (That took quite a bit of trial and error to figure out.)

This is how I store my markers....
My sweet husband cut some 2" PVC pipe into 6" sections for me. I used my hot glue gun to glue them together. They're not all glued together, just rows of 3 and 5, I didn't want it too permanent because I'm not sure how I want them stacked yet. This works for now.

Here are the images I am working on right now. These will go on my Valentine's cards and tags. This stamp and die set is the Cute Critters set from My Favorite Things. I am going to make some shaker cards, regular cards and gift tags. I like to prepare quite a few of the images and then just sit and color. Sometimes I sit in my craft room but most of the time I grab the colors I need and sit at the kitchen counter where I can see the t.v.

I have seen so many coloring tutorials on YouTube and so many different ways to color. I have tried to follow other people's instructions and it just didn't work out for me. I ended up just making up my own way and guess changes every time I sit down to color. Sometimes I start from dark and go to light, sometimes it's the other way around. It's just one of those "go with the flow" things. These are the colors I used:
Light areas :IG1, IG3, IG5
Dark areas: IG4, IG7, IG10

GB8, GB9, GB10
Flower: Christmas Red Wink of Stella Brush Tip Glitter Marker

Head/Body: TN2,TN3, TN4, TN6, TN9
Eyes/Tail: EB2, TN2

I am nowhere near qualified to give a tutorial on coloring, however, sometimes I have a hard time finding the right color combinations so I thought this would be helpful. I will be back in a few days to share part 2 of my Valentine's Day cards with you.

Thanks for stopping by!

Christmas Is Over

Well, it was a very sad day for me. We took down all of our Christmas decorations today. I LOVE Christmas! My husband thinks I go overboard, he's fine with just having a Christmas tree. If it were up to him, we wouldn't even have a tree though. I have to say it was much easier taking everything down than it was putting it all up, only because he was helping me take it all down. It really does make me sad that Christmas is over. I almost cried, especially trying to fit the tree back in the box!
He would've made me do it sooner but we've been frozen in for the past few days. We had some bad weather this week. Everything was frozen, work got cancelled, everyone was urged to stay off the roads. It usually happens once a year here. Since the kids are still home on Christmas break we all got to spend some quality time together. Well, for the first few hours, then it was non stop complaining of boredom after that. I did manage to make my first card of 2015! My next door neighbor is having a baby girl tomorrow and I decided to make her a card. I finally got to go shop for a gift today also. Everything thawed out yesterday finally.

I really like shaker cards. I don't know why I'm so obsessed with them but I am. So, I made her a shaker card. And I really enjoy coloring so I try to add a little coloring to my cards. The image is Newton's Nook Designs - Winged Wishes Stamp Set which I colored with my Spectrum Noir markers. I added lots of "baby" colored sequins and the paper is the Baby Girl Stack from DCWV I bought at Michael's. I also made that huge envelope to go with it. I need to work on envelopes, or buy some I guess.
Hopefully, I get to work on some Valentine's cards soon. It will be here before you know it. I'm also going to be working on Christmas all year so I'm more prepared than I was this past Christmas.

Happy New Year

Welcome 2015! I can't believe another year has come and gone! We had lots of ups and downs, fortunately, mostly ups. I haven't decided on a resolution, I actually haven't thought about it at all. I did decide that I wanted to keep a journal, I also decided the same thing 365 days ago. It lasted for 3 days, then the journal turned into a scratch pad for notes, passwords, menu plans and grocery lists.

Hey, at least the journal didn't go to waste, I used it....just not the way I had intended to.

Also, I wouldn't call it a resolution necessarily, but, I have also vowed to quit "pinning" uncontrollably. I have a bad habit of pinning tons of arts and crafts to boards I don't even remember creating. It is very therapeutic for me, especially when I can't sleep, every single night. However, I am only going to pin items that I sincerely plan on making.

So, why the blog? Well, I have no idea. Seriously, I have no idea what I'm doing. I figured it would be an easy way to keep up with my crafts and journaling.

WARNING: I am a horrible speller and my grammar sucks. I am too lazy to get my good camera out so most pictures will be shaky cell phone quality.
